Guest is Van Johnson. Confusion opens the show when Don introduces Van Johnson as star of the show, and Mary hasn’t showed up yet. Jack tries to phone Mary, but the telephone operators take the opportunity to gossip about the night’s guest. Mary seems to have gone missing so she could pick up Van, which makes Jack a litle upset.
Elsewhere, we join Mary and Van as she takes the scenic route back to the studio. Eventually the giddy Mary makes it back and Van meets the guys. What is it about Van Johnson that makes the girls go wild over him? Dennis sings, I Can’t Begin to Tell You.
In honor of the guest star, Jack spoofs Van Johnson’s big hit film. The Acme Plaza is a place where mystery meets romance. Mary runs the telephone switchboard, Phil is the house detective, and Dennis is a wealthy railroad tycoon. Mary is the object of the affections of Van Johnson, but has a hard time playing hard to get. Not to be left out, Jack plays Van Jackson, glamour man who soon finds himself giving romance lessons to Van. Poor Van Johnson, why don’t girls like him?
To put his new found charms to work, and sweep Mary off her feet, he breaks out into song with, Tell You What I’m Gonna Do. Mary joins in as a duet. Does that mean he won her over? Jack closes with a pitch for supporting the Boys Club.
