The battle of the sexes has struck our little community of Pine Ridge. Abner has trouble in the home, and complains about his stay overnight at Lum’s house. Grandpap holds out a solution by suggesting that Abner write to a newspaper column. It’s always a beauty day for Cedric, and he arrives full of expectation for his day in school.
Cedric has a paper for his class, and needs input from Abner. While Abner composes his letter to the Miss Lovelace column, Cedric has been eavesdropping and incorporates some of Abner’s words into his own paper.
Grandpap hones Abner’s small talk over the weather, to focus on his troubles. Meanwhile, Cedric needs help with spelling words like “the” or “a”. The suffering Abner is on a roll in scratching out his letter. Will it work to get him back into his home? Can Abner have his letter answered confidentially? What exactly did Cedric write? Lum enters with a hint at the dirty laundry that is about to be aired in school.
