At the breakfast table, Gildy tries to run his household efficiently. Amid the meal disasters, Leila Ransom arrives to brighten his day. She has a secret. She’s coming into money, but how does she know? Who told her about it? A swamie is in town to read palms. Gildy is off to get help from Judge Hooker to put a stop to the faker.
At Floyd’s barber shop, Gildy tries to enlist the police commissioner to run the man out of town. Are the cops dropping the ball? Is there really anything illegal in what the swami is doing? The shorthanded cop deputizes Gildy and Floyd, since they feel the need to monitor the activities.
Posing as customers, Gildy and Floyd check out the ;palm reader. Soft music plays to set the mood. How well will the swami do in reading Floyd’s palm? What troubles might be found in Gildy’s palm? Whatever it is, it’s enough to convince Gildy the man is phony.
In Peavey’s drugstore, Gildy takes his troubles, but will Peavey have any advice to offer? Is there two sides to the supernatural problem? At home, Gildy learns that for Leila, her fortune has come true. A real prediction, or just coincidence? Gildy may never know.
