Since the arrival of the new school teacher, Lum’s duties seem to have increased. Today, Cedric visits the Jot Em Down store to tell Abner about his return to school. He has been tested, and claims he gets to start with a promotion into three readers over where he was. By the time Abner figures it out, Cedric’s math skills show that he’s really right back in the third reader again.
Abner gets upset over Lum, that polka dotted varmint, when Cedric tells that he’s been at the schoolhouse most of the day. Though Lum won’t admit it, it’s clear that he’s in love with Miss Platt.
As Cedric leaves with his school supplies, Lum enters. Abner grills him over where’s he been all day. Armed with info from Cedric it’s easy to catch Lum in a web of lies. And were those water pipes really faulty?
