Business that Abner has been getting on the phone is related to school board problems. Why all the complaints about professor Sloan? Lum tells that the once top notch teacher has lost interest, and the young scholars aren’t learning anything this year.
Has this problem been brewing for a while? Is Lum the man to confront the teacher, and fire him? Abner coaches Lum on the right technique to use to soften the blow. Lum figures he can do a better job at telling a man bad news. Concerns over personal friendships, and what the scholars will think begin to muddy the waters of decision.
With the seriousness of what his duty is all about, Lum tries to pass it off to Abner. Where will loyalties lie? Therre won’t be any putting it off any further with the board already voting on the issue, and all the parental complaints. Maybe if Lum dictates a letter to do the dirty work?
