A couple of cattle men come gunning for old Zeek Gideon, a peaceful sheep herder who doesn’t carry a gun. They make an example of him, not by shooting him, but in killing all the sheep in his small flock. Zeke is more concerned at not being able to pay his bill to Doc Adams, and doesn’t report how his loss came about to Matt. It still raises flags, and Matt wants to get to the bottom of the weird situation.
When Matt confronts the old man, he learns that Zeke is such a pacifist that he doesn’t believe in killing for any reason. Back in town, Kitty discusses with Matt that the pacifism isn’t wrong, just because it’s different from the norm. How much abuse will Zeke take? He has his wagons burned, and his losses pile up. Still, he holds to his principal, which makes Matt confused at the old guy.
What would happen if Zeke finally does get himself shot? It looks like Matt could be tracking down a killer before long. At least He’ll be going after a coward who would gun down an unarmed man.
