In the jailhouse, the smarmy, pretentious BJ Webster lays on the flowery speech to get Abner to act on serving those eviction papers on grandpap. Somehow he doesn’t get Abner confused by the compliments. Just as the contractor exits, grandpap arrives. The way grandpap sees it, all he needs is a few good farm hands to help work his fields.
A new government program might help with recruiting the laborers he needs, but as Abner makes an effort to look for that misplaced paper, grandpap finds it, reads it, and affectively serves his own eviction on himself.
There’s still the matter of enforcing the order. Will this still put Abner on the fighting side of grandpap? A man who seems to be in a spot where all his friends have turned against him?
