Slate Shannon catches up with an old friend, Joe Bishop. He has Slate hold his life’s treasure, but before it can be put into a safe, Joe is filled with holes, and the package is swiped. Mr Cordovanmay have underestimated the value of the sapphires, the Tears of Siba.

Sailor would rather leave solving the murder to the police, but Slate takes it personal when it’s a friend who was killed. At the dock, a crusty shipmate tells about Joe, and his recent behavior. Murder has beaten Slate to the ship captain, so he sets out to Port Au Prince with Sailor.
While Shannon is on the fast track to finding the real gems, Sailor is far from safe when he sends her to the hotel. She faces the business end of a gun, while he encounters a voodoo lady, and possibly the same fate as his pal, Joe Bishop. It comes down to a standoff, and a gun battle at sea.
In epilog, Sailor tries out a voodoo love charm she picked up in Haiti. Will it have an affect on softening the crusty Slate?
