Bill Blain writes a will that in the event of his murder, none of his relatives inherit a thing. Elsewhere, Boston Blackie is dining out with Mary, when their meal is interrupted by a phone call from Bill Blain. The man is asking to hire Blackie to become his bodyguard. Blackie isn’t impressed with the man’s power or wealth, and hangs up on him to return to his date with Mary. Will there be trouble brewing for Boston Blackie?
To get to Blackie, Blain puts the heat on his friend, Shorty. Bill Blain takes Blackie to meet his odd family. Is the old man really in danger for his life, or just paranoid? With Farraday’s help, Blackie protects the man by locking him in a room with all doors and windows locked, and a police force guarding him. Still, a shot rings out, and shoots poor old Uncle Bill Blain. How could it have happened? Especially right in front of Farraday. Blackie is on hand to tease the cops, but he seems to know the secret of how the deed was done. Instead, it’s just a ruse to escape from Farraday.
Mary lets Farraday know that Blackie’s alibi was that he was busy cracking a safe. How is that going to help matters? It was a mission to gather information on Blain. There’s a standoff when Farraday apprehends Mary to lure Blackie into his hands. The wise cracking Boston Blackie gets together with good buddy Inspector Farraday to set Mary free, and to share how the shooting trick was done. He even uncovers the killer.
