Long time friends share a moment as Holmes plays a haunting melody on his violin. Active practice of detective work is well behind them, but Watson wonders if Holmes ever thinks of pursuing cases again. Preposterous! But you know what that means… a case is about to be laid in their laps.
The daughter of “the Woman” has brought a case to the great detective. She is being blackmailed by Mr Stanley, who has incriminating letters. They stand to impact her impending wedding if they become known. Will Sherlock go as far as use his unconventional methods to steal the letters? Disguises are donned, and the old sleuths prepare to get to work.
Posing as priests who are raising money for charity, Holmes and Watson get their foot in the door, but has a trap been laid for the detectives? There’s still a trick up the aging sleeve of Sherlock. But are the letters non-existent? What is really in the filigree box, and will Sherlock’s turn about be what it takes to warn the girl from a life of crime like her mother had taken? Or has Sherlock once again been duped by a woman?
PS: for those who missed the previous episode, or know nothing of the classic tales written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, “The Woman” is how Holmes refers to an arch nemesis, Irenie Adler. The one woman who outsmarted him, and got away.
