Abandoning the treasure hunt , our travelers head home. In a telegraph office, the gents try to compose a note to have someone send $20 so they can get home from Little Rock. The concise message is less than the ten word limit, so Lum tries to minimize the indignity of their failure.
While Lum and Abner agonize over being broke, and finding the right words to ask for money, Cedric browses through pre-written telegrams for all occasions of greetings. The greetings for graduations, birthdays, and other events don’t quite suit the need, no matter how eloquent.
Will their telegram create a flurry of gossip? The thought of eager gossipmongers gets the gents riled up over the imagined words of mockery.
