Henry joins his pal, Dizzy Stevens, for dinner. Will the choice to eat broccoli really win points in impressing a girl? ? Mr Stevens’ is confused over the need for a sleeping bag, passing math, broccoli, and running the cross country race. Henry manages to untangle the mystery, and tell how they’re all connected.
The training for the race is beginning to prove more tough than Henry expected, but Dizzy pushes him to keep at it. Will Mr Aldrich cave into civic pride, and school spirit to get Henry the track shoes and uniform he needs? Henry takes his training to new levels, even to the point of pushing the line in convincing his parents to get him the gear he needs.
Dizzy coaches Henry on the 3 and a half mile race. Should he give it his all, or should he pace himself? How does that advice compare to the Coach’s strategies? The long distance race is on, and Dizzy paces his pal on his bike. The challenges build when Henry loses a shoe, then has to run bare foot on gravel. Will Dizzy save the day, and get those sneakers at the last moment? The finish line is in sight. , and the crowd roars.
Later at the dance, Geraldine is worried. Nobody has seen their hero Henry. Has the cross town rival kidnapped, or harmed him? A less sinister secret reveals the truth about the mighty track star.
