A wealthy rancher named Tom has become increasingly irate over Ralph. The lad is the grown son of his wife, and prone to be shiftless. Ralph’s girlfriend, Vera, has moved in as well, but is equally useless around the house. Will Mary stand for it to have her son be kicked out, along with his girlfriend?
Though Vera is fine with walking out, the simpering Ralph figures he could always get a job as a bank teller. Changes at the bank mean an audit. There’s nothing that Ralph has to worry about… is there? Just a matter of a little embezzling, that’s all. He comes clean to Vera how he borrowed cash from the bank to pay back a gambling debt.
Back at the ranch, Ralph overhears the flaring temper of Tom, over a business matter with another rancher. Will there be any hope of borrowing money from him? How are things going between Mary and Tom? With Tom’s rages, he could die in one of them. He has enough life insurance… doesn’t he? When Tom is stabbed through the heart, might it be at the hand of that business rival, Miller?
The cops are no fools, and when the heat is on, Ralph feels the pressure. But was it him? The flurry of confessions are designed to cover up for each other. The Whistler will have the final say in who was guilty, and who will pay the price of justice.
