The feud between grandpap and Lum is lingering. Today, Cedric is helping in the store, and is warned about a new hair tonic Lum has been working on,. Clarence Bates is with Cedric, though he doesn’t speak.
The thing Cedric really wants is Lum’s fake whiskers he used as a disguise. He wants to sneak Clarence out of town, and out of school, so the two can do some fishing. Grandpap phones in, and is still on the warpath to shoot Lum.
When Lum finally sneaks in, he recaps his regrets over trimming off grandpaps beard. Where does the blame lie? Did even grandpap have a hand in his own undoing? Lum discusses moving to a new town, and making a new start using his brain to get him started in a career. “Oh, you really are bad off,” Abner says. Should Lum stay and face grandpap? Should he go? What about his hair tonic? Does it really work?
