Election Day is coming, not the presidential election, but one for the governor, and other local officials. Alice seeks the opinions of Phil, much to Willie’s dismay. They go to tell the band at the rehearsal to get out to vote. Alice sings, Thinking of You.
For mayor of Encino, Alice is all for Myrtle Conley. The formidable dame runs on a platform to close down pool halls, burlesque joints, and other palaces of vice. To put a stop to a threat to make musicians homeless, Phil wants Remley to make love to the lady politician, get her married, and settled down. Phil sings his new hit, The Thing.
Somehow, Frankie’s sweet talking resembles insults. Can Phil patch up the damage, and lay on the charm to woo the lady away from politics? For that matter, can he fend off Myrtle once she gets Phil in her sights as the target of affection? Julius enters and might help in the resolution, but when Alice arrives, Phil has some explaining to do.
