Do I really need to write show notes on this one? Maybe I should just let listeners of the podcast, and readers of the blog fill in the comments with favorite Wizard of Oz moments.
Typically, Lux Radio Theater tried to use the original cast, to enact a script based on their hit film. When the cast wasn’t available, stock actors filled in. In today’s feature, Judy Garland is the only one to receive credit, but the Cowardly Lion is veteran actor, Ed Macks. Songs from the film sprinkle the action, as Dorothy Gale is whisked out of Kansas, and into a fantasy world full of Munchkins, Wicked Witches, and a journey to Oz, with her new found friends, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion.
Bonus Track
- Keith clarifies a slight dispute raised by a Twitter follower about when Lux Radio Theater first aired… the listener wins! But the only time the Wizard of Oz was ever performed was the one we feature today.

Here’s my official Amazon description:
Comparing well known bible passages, and developing a chain of events that walk through the activities surrounding the birth of Jesus, this short edition offers a glimpse of the times. But what about the people, customs, or events that don’t seem to fit? Was there really a star? Were the shepherds and wisemen together at the manger? What was it like to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem compared to today? Archeology, astronomy, and some help from the web offers interesting insights as well.
Well? Go check it out. I’ll be looking forward to hearing your response in your review.
