A party ended on a sour note for guests and hosts alike. Today we find Gildy in Floyd’s barber shop to try and make amends. Heading to Peavey’s drugstore, a thermometer is needed for Marjorie, who has had a sore throat. Gildy fills Peavey in on the fiasco of a party. Back home, in his own way, Leroy lets his sister know he is worried over her illness. Who else would he have to fight with if something happened to her?
Leroy has some explaining to do when he has to show his report card. Gildy is surprised to see the good marks for a change. The report on the thermometer gives a good report, and the family are ready for a celebration. The kids have been watching the events unfold about Miss Del Rey, and want to know where she stands with Gildy. Everybody seems to think there’s something going on with the sultry newcomer to town, even Eve Goodwin. Gildy has to go around to set people straight that he has no feelings for her.
The promised family celebration bonds them a little closer together. When judge Hooker enters, the kids get their first look at the much heard about Miss Del Rey. Are there any regrets on Gildy’s behalf to see the woman out with the judge? In the office, Gildy talks with his secretary, Bessie, about her perspective on dating. Dedicated to finishing his work, he just can’t get Miss Del Rey out of his mind. Delores surprises him when she comes to the office to express her interest is in Gildy, and not the judge.
