Mr Chips is an old, beloved teacher at Brookfield school. In flashback, he relives his long career, beginning with his first year at the school as a young teacher. He dreams about becoming headmaster some day, but for now finds contentment in dealing with the students on a daily basis. A love blooms, and even a marriage, despite the mediocre standing of Mr Chips, and his ability to support his bride as ewell as he would like.
A kind and understanding teacher, Mr Chips wasn’t known for being a disciplinarian. Will any of that change his attitude when the birth of his first child is on the way? When tragedy strikes during childbirth, Mr Chips pours himself into his work to cope with his loss. Years pass, decades pass, and Mr Chips finds himself to be a relic, who is behind the times, and annoys the headmaster when refusing to update his ways.
News of his being forced to resign is met by an outcry of the boys of Brookfield. Sharing memories with his young students, word of a war comes. With the drain on young men to battle, will Mr Chips finally be awarded the position of headmaster? With the war over, and finally retired, Mr Chips doesn’t get out much, but makes himself available for his boys, should any stop by.
