While Lum has been making an announcement on the party line about the theater’s preview opening, Abner has been a little enthusiastic in painting the box office. What good is it to paint the windows too? What’s wrong with Abner, besides being a little confused?
Taking Lum literally, Abner breaks out the window. Poor Abner. Nothing has been going right for him today. A fight with Lizabeth earlier, now the fiasco with the paint, and leaning against wet paint. Cedric arrives to tell that Squire’s day hasn’t gone much better, losing his temper, and throwing one fit after another.
The scene changes to the Hippodrome theater to glimpse how Squire Skimp is taking the matter of not being able to open earlier than Lum and Abner. Grandpap is on hand, and privy to a rumor that Squire is spreading. He tells Sister Simpson, the leader of the local Uplift League about the harmful, and damaging impressions the action in Lum and Abner’s movie, the Vulture’s Revenge, may have on youngsters.
