Lum just can’t get over his loss to Caleb Wehundt for school board president. He enumerates all the good work he has done for the school, and grumbles at being trampled in the dust. He bought a new furnace 8 or 10 years ago. He made daily visits to check on the scholars… and Miss Fredericks when he was sparking her.
Every conversation point ends up with an open door for Lum to gripe over his loss. He’s so distraught, he’s sure he’ll be gone before the sun sets over yonder hill… er… which ever direction the sun sets in these parts.
Squire Skimp arrives in good spirits.
After an ad hoc school board meeting, a decision has been reached regarding Lum, and his long years of service. Somehow, I don’t think Lum will be as impressed as highly as he lets his spirits soar.
