A fashion designer is said to have killed himself, and today his niece is seeking the services of Nero Wolfe to examine the circumstance of it. At a fashion show, the dame recognized her uncle, despite his disguise. Did others recognize him? Why would she even want to know? Her inheritance of half the company would resort back to her uncle if he were still alive.
The only lead to the dead uncle is in the love of his life, his work. Archie is soon off to attend the fashion show. He rants on about the beauties to Nero, much to the annoyance of his rotund boss. When Inspector Kramer comes calling to learn about Carla, Nero keeps matters confidential, while Archie whisks their client away. What’s the latest development with dear old uncle? A body, fitting the description of the disguised uncle has been found. Will Nero be forced to turn his client over to the cops, or will he manage to pull off telling the truth, and protecting his client at the same time?
To proceed, Nero demands to know whether Carla killed the man the police are investigating, and whether he was indeed her uncle. Satisfied with her claims, the next thing is to retrace her steps, and find out who else knew her uncle was back in town. Join Nero as he peels away the layers of the mystery, and exposes the big reveal. The twists keep coming, but Nero still has the solution to the matter.
