After the failed attempt to impress Mable Melrose with his bird lore, Lum and Abner are back to business as usual in the Jot Em Down store. Lum confuses Abner on a woman’s right to change her mind. Such prittle prattle. Even that phrase, prittle prattle touches a nerve for Lum’s desire to use proper grammar.
In trying to keep the language pure, Lum tries to make an intellectual defense to explain the importance of it to Abner. Abner keeps getting confused, and can’t understand why it’s so important. What does it have to do with his brother in law Fred?
Abner gets to talking about more practical things, like telling the difference between a girls bike and a boys bike. Lum comes to his senses, and realizes that all his crazy ideas are just to get in close, so he can impress Mable Melrose. Will he actually be ready to propose to her?
