After the failed surrealist art sale and exhibit, Lum wants to throw away all his paintings. Since grandpap’s painting of a bowl of fruit was the top seller, he enters in good spirits. In his not wanting to rub it in, grandpap has a way of doing just that.
To top his previous extravaganza of a bowl with 2 bananas, and an apple, grandpap is going to paint… one with 2 apples, and 4 bananas. He ought to be able to double his profits with that one. Even Abner thinks he could get in on some of that kind of painting.
Lum is disgusted, and moping over being a laughing stock. He has to admit that folks in town just aren’t ready for surrealistic art. He also admits that once he painted his masterpieces, he had trouble telling what they were himself. He’s just glad to be shut of it all.
