In reporting on his latest caper, Sam finds his secretary, Effie Perine, in uncharacteristic bad attitude. What is it about the big job for the local newspaper that has her mood turned on the dark side? The editor with the famous name of Woodrow Wilson, wants a detective to discover what’s behind a photo of a smoking gun, and why no murders, suicides, or shootings have been reported to the authorities since the incident.
Checking out the building, a dame named Honey Cane, and her roommate, Sandra occupy the room where the gunshot was captured on film. More snooping reveals construction projects going on, including pouring a new concrete floor in the basement. He also discovers that a missing Max Barstow has folks acting nervous. Watch out Sam, the snooping could end up with a roughing up.
After waking up in the alley, Sam is more determined than ever to dig into the case. It only means the more Sam shakes things up, the more dangers await him. What kind of con is going down? A set up, and fake murder lead to a double cross, and Sam needs to act fast to stop a real murder.
