An old friend, and a boxing trainer drops a line to Philip Marlowe to help out with his latest boxer. As Marlowe goes to visit his pal Babe, we get an earful of picturesque description of the sights at the gym. Mr Weatherwax is an old timer with funds, and his recent discovery is investing in the new boxers. Danny is a hot headed boxer who is prideful, and likes to settle matters on his own terms. He won’t appreciate Marlowe trying to help him out. Trying to blend in, Marlowe poses as a reporter from Detroit. Rollie Lance is the owner of the place, but his neglected trophy wife may have just caught Marlowe in her trap.
What game will Myra be playing with Marlowe? She has a past with a few of the fighters, including Danny Eagle. Will she blow his cover and spill the beans on his status as a private eye? Time to move fast. What will Philip get out of Danny? How about a thump on the head?
Bodies begin to pile up, Rollie Lance is dead. Marlowe tries to gather clues before the cops get called out to investigate. Could it be the dame… the boxer… the old boxing investor… someone else? Danger keeps brewing, and Marlowe has to move to keep more bodies from popping up. Or maybe he’ll just find himself in prime position to be the next body.
