A fictitious female is concocted to enter the contest. Now the trouble is in getting her the votes needed to swing favor away from widow Abernathy and sister Simpson. The winner in the contest, contrived to sell war bonds, wins the hand of the handsome Lum Edwards as their husband. Abner thinks a campaign to make the widow, or sister Simpson hate and despise Lum could cause a forfeit. Too bad Lum is so lovable… that could never happen.
People in town may be onto the idea that Mabel is a fake. Lum decides to write down a description of the yellow haired, blue eyed beauty, right down to her pretty little feet. The little beauty is also rich, and Lum is said to have met her when visiting up in Wisconsin.
The gents get caught up in the lumber business that made Mabel her money. Maybe Lizabeth could get on up there as a lumber jack? Lum is soon dreaming of all the money he and Mabel will have once she wins, and marries him.
