Tonight starts the 5th year with Fibber McGee and Molly, not that it has anything to do with the show.
What would you do if you thought a German spy lived across the street? If you were Fibber, you’d spy back at the dirty saboteur. Alice Darling enters to learn why the man is suspected. He works down at the defense plant with her. She assures McGee that he doesn’t take pictures of airplanes, just of the girls while they’re on lunch break. Fibber is particularly jumpy and paranoid, but a phone call to Mirt the operator reveals information about a relative in the Navy. Billy Mills begins to play, but his song is snipped.
Nerves are still on edge when Mr Wellington, the theater manager pops in. He has a bicycle garter to hold down pants legs while riding to Fibber, and the conversation turns to football, and Fibber’s athletic prowess. Harlowe Wilcox enters to hear about the spy, and spin the topic to pitch the sponsor.
Beulah enters with the request to serve dinner to Fibber in the living room, so he can keep an eye on his neighbor. She tells about her cooking skill, then the Kingsmen sing, It’s Love Love Love.
What’s the latest suspicious activity? Doc Gamble gets a kick out of Fibber’s worries. Doc has had enough, but as he leaves Teeny arrives. Will she believe all the spy stuff? Is he being an alarmist, a fussy old fool? When sirens and guns come blazing down the street will Fibber actually be right for once?
