The solution to Lum’s lady woes comes to Abner. An election to vote for whether Lum should wed the widow Abernathy, or sister Simpson should solve both Lum’s problem, and be the next big war bond drive. Everybody loves the idea… all except for Lum. Hmmm… I wonder why?
Abner and grandpap discuss the benefit for Lum in finally getting married, and having kids to comfort him in his old age. A big blackboard is set up outside to keep tally of the election results. War bonds and votes begin to pour in. Vote often, and as many times as you like. Cedric has to be the go between for Lum and Abner since Lum refuses to talk to his pal, Mr Peabody.
Trying to compose a sales pitch for war bonds, Lum teaches cedric the importance of buying the war bonds. It’s always encouraged for citizens to boost the amount taken out of the payroll savings plan. Grandpap diffusers the scene with a gift of ice cream. Now it’s Abner who gets to come up short.
