The Judge and gildersleeve talk politics, and Gildy’s chances at becoming Mayor of Summerfield. It seems his plans to run have leaked out after telling Floyd the barber. The judge leaves and Gildersleeve breaks his big news to the family. After sharing their suspicions, and misunderstandings at what the big news might be, all are pleasantly surprised, and are in support of the political race. It’s just important to keep things quiet at this early stage of the game.
Leila visits with news, which she shares after Leroy leaves the room and lets the adults talk. Her sometimes love interest, Doctor Abernathy is going to host an important political figure and Gildy makes it a point to be at the event to do some schmoozing. He goes to Peavey’s to get some cologne so he can make a good impression. Peavey shows his wares, and tries to guess who the important lady is. Gildy makes his selection with his nose, and ends up paying through it as well.
Later, Gildy helps Leila carry in her cake, and presents her with his gift. Leila is duly flattered, but Gildy has his balloon burst when the Doctor is also on hand to lend his aid to Leila’s party. Eve Goodwin arrives and tosses the love triangle into a more complex shape. Doc seems smitten by Eve. Eve is keen on Gildy, but jealous of Leila. Leila is inclined to doc, but both she and Gildy are so fickle they really could go either way, as long as their hearts aren’t broken from being a jilted party.
As the events unfold, Eve plays a few bars of Bach. Gildy starts to sing, but is interrupted. Doc is called away on his duties to deliver a baby, and Gildy is back to being the sole rooster in the hen house.
Just then, the Judge announces that important political visitor has arrived, and Gildy has to pry himself from his fun. Gildy gets to meet the important man, but was it worth the effort?
