Previously Doc and Lenny have made their break from the Martians, and are making a beeline to get back to Jet. Doc keeps up his voiceover narative as he tells about their activities in reuniting, and what comes next.
Some of the crew have fallen under the Martian mind control to the point of being beyond hope. Our heros, Jet, Lenny, Mitch, and Doc have recruited the man, Webster to help them confront the Martians. They have promised to take him back to Earth with them. They infiltrate, and explore one of the pyramid cities, and learn what the Martians are up to. Making bombers. It is revealed that some people are more susceptable to mind control than others, but the Martians have a place for all of the humans. How can Jet use this information to his benefit? Things may not be going well when our heros learn that the Martians already know of their presence.
Time for some evasive maneuvers. Can they make it back to their polar base of operations? The astronauts manage a takeoff, but are they home free yet? They are being pursued by a fleet of Martian sphere’s. In voiceover, Doc continues to fill in gaps, and how they reported back to Earth about their losses, the humans who are held on Mars, and the pending invasion.
Will they be believed? The many months of space flight is rushed over, and the remaining ships in the expedition prepare to land on the moon landing base. Doc keeps up his report to tell of the Martian invasion that was forced to take place earlier than expected, but we are left hanging because, of course, that’s a different story.
One of my all time favorite science fiction stories for radio. You can’t beat Jet Morgan as a spaceman hero, and Charles Chilton’s scripts are utterly gripping.
