The holiday season is over, and it’s time to return to the daily grind of school. When Walter stops in to pick up Miss Brooks for school, she learns that Stretch Snodgrass has a problem. At school, she learns of a problem that Mr Conklin has. He needs Connie to write a speech for him, but will her buttering up build his confidence to do it himself? Stretch demonstrates his wonderful English abilities, both in speech and in writing. I feel a mix up coming on.
Connie accidentally tears up Conklin’s speech, and mistakes Stretch’s butchered essay for it instead. At the same time, that prankster Walter Denton has something special cooked up to greet Mr Stone. Mix ups abound in this episode, and when it’s time for the big speech, explosive results are in store. The shellshocked Conklin has temporarily lost his hearing, and he tries to fake his way through his meeting with Mr Stone.
In epilog, his hearing clears for a moment of revenge on Connie.
