Abner reviews with Cedric the mishaps of late. Doc Snide slipping out of town, and Lum’s close call with representing himself as a dentist, but having no license. Lum also fled town, fearing he would be thrown into the penitentiary. Abner and Cedric sadly miss him already.
As they place orders, they see Lum approach. Maybe a joke will take Lum’s mind off of being put into jail? Just not the one Cedric tells. Lum has good news though, the judge at the county seat dismissed his case. He fills in his friends on the details.
Lum shares the pledge he wrote for himself, full of big words, and meant to demonstrate his intent to never be a dentist again. Before he gets too far, a post card comes in with the good word that grandpap is returning. Sure enough he pops into the store. He still has amnesia, disillusioned at finding no relatives in Toledo, but he’s glad to be back.
