Meanwhile, the gents deal with phone interruptions from US Quincey, who wants them to paint his barn. Lum gets the idea of presenting a pageant of memories from the life of grandpap, intended to spark his memories. Will he have a clue who Milford Avery Spears is?
As if on cue, grandpap enters to tell about a visitor to town. He doesn’t have a memory problem in knowing who Barbara Stanwick is. The movie star is in town to raise support to buy war bonds. Lum thinks he’s hallucinating, until Barbara enters the store. In telling about her car break down, she pitches the need to support the war effort, buy bonds, and makes her appeal on the party line.
