Though he agreed to it, Nero Wolfe backs out of attending a cocktail party, but sends Archie Goodwin in his place. Mrs Collins needs a detective to be watchful. Will there be trouble for her at the party? Business men with a legal dispute? a jealous woman?
Archie reports in, but Nero doesn’t care about the boring events at the party. What will it take for him… a murder? The drinks go down, and the hackles come up. Though the gents seem more mellow, the claws come out between Jane and Georgia. Maybe Nero will be interested now that someone has been poisoned.
Back in the office, Archie reviews the scene with his boss. It doesn’t take Nero long, after the events are related, and he knows how the murder went down. Will there be another murder? Nero explains all the details and motives as he turns out a killer.
