A story set at the out set of World War 2 as Britain is being drawn into the war. Greer Garson is Mrs Miniver, wife of an architect, and firmly placed in high society. Her lifestyle of her kids, shopping, matters at church, and tending to the gardening is about to be disrupted. The social events, and extravagances of high society are about to meet the demands of wartime blackouts and rationing.
The son goes off to be in the Royal Air Force, as dad, played by Walter Pigeon, stays home as part of the home guard. With the military all looking for that downed German pilot, guess who finds him? When dad comes back to tell of his adventure, the matter of fact manner of his wife, and her encounter with the enemy pilot has him amazed and amused.
The ravages of war can’t stop things like love or marriage. Bombing runs are a wake up call to reality, but what can a young British family do, but to keep on going as best as they can. While the men fight the war, the ladies face their own battles, and in the nature of the air raids, it wasn’t only the young men who died for their country.
A tale of trials and triumphs, and of sacrifices made by those on the battlefields as well as on the homefront.
