In the little town, downtrodden by Romans, Mary is living in Nazareth. We find Joseph calling on her father to ask to marry her. Her mother Anna, seems to her husband Joachim, to be a prophet in feeling that the Lord is present in the house. Great news is hinted at, but is set aside in the preparations the betrothal begins.
News has arrived about Zecharias and that he will be in the temple. Elizabeth wants to pray that Mary will have a child. She thinks it’s too late for an old woman such as herself. Elsewhere, Joseph wants to talk to Zecharias, but is told to wait until after the service. What is on his mind about the foretold Messiah?
As we listen in at the temple, the message is one about the prophecy of Messiah. Is there something wrong when Zecharia comes out of the inner chamber of the Holy of Holies? Elizabeth blames herself for the silence, and pale expression of her husband. The family discuss the meaning of being struck dumb. Is it a permanent thing? Does it have to do with the Messiah?
Later, Joachim and Anna share a letter describing the coming baby that Elizabeth is expecting. Mary seems to have disappeared, but where has she gone? Meanwhile, in the home of Elizabeth, Mary arrives with news, but it’s news that Elizabeth somehow already knows. What is this greeting that Elizabeth has for her young relative? Blessed are you among women. What will be in store for the children the two women will bear?
