With high society honors in store for grandpap, we join Lum and Abner in Pine Ridge to see how they are pampering their old friend today. He still has a loss of memory, and the hope is by meeting everyone in town, the amnesia will be cured. Putting on airs, Lum has convinced folks to let him live in the schoolhouse, claiming it to be the Whitley-Edwards mansion, How is that supposed to work, with school going on, and kids that need to be in class?
To make this coming out party all it can be, Lum needs to find a debutante. What are those, and how can Lum find one? Is it a party game, like pinning tales on the donkey? A book on etiquette might help, but both Lum and Abner still get confused on the matter.
Is a debutante a piece of furniture? does it receive… umbrellas? Does it involve flowers? How can you play post office, or pin the tail on a donkey if you have to hold onto your flowers, or umbrella all night? Maybe Dick Huddleston knows what a debutante is.
