After Whittaker has died, Jet and Lenny return to their flagship, while Doc and Mitch stay in ship #6 to get caught up with the fleet.
A radio message turns out to be a recording from the missing Peterson. He claims to have murdered Whittaker, and abandoned ship to drift away into space in his space suit.
Finally a real call comes in from Control back on earth. Are things returning to a sane level? The fleet flies closer to Mars, and begins to be able to make out terrain features on the Red Planet. Memories of the words that Whittaker used keep coming back to haunt the mind of Jet. What’s that wierd song all about? Might there be cities on Mars? Jet shares his concerns over the mystery with Doc.
The general feeling in the crew is upbeat as they approach Mars, and prepare to land. The journey will soon be over. Although, complications have arisen regarding the landing, it’ll take a delicate operation.
Suddenly there’s a wierd noise, and the ships lose control.
