After passing through the mysterious cloud of space debris, ship #6 is missing, and contact with Control has been cut off. Something’s wrong though. The time delay in communication is too short to be coming from Earth. What’s going on?
An order comes through to abandon the mission. Is this Whittaker faking it, why would he do such a thing? Jet calls Whittaker’s former rocketship mate to get info from him. What odd things has Whittaker been up to? Whatever it is, it won’t keep Jet, and the fleet from pressing forward to Mars.
Things are quiet until radar shows a new object in their path. Could it be? It’s Whittaker’s #6 ship. As the fleet cruises past, Jet and a landing party board and try to make sense of the mess inside.
