After his date with Eve Goodwin, Gildy is on cloud 9. At home, he is getting cleaned up in the tub when LeRoy needs to talk with him. As morning preparations continue, Marjorie and Birdie join around the breakfast table. Gildy sends a love note with LeRoy to school to give to Eve, the school principal.
Meanwhile, Leila tries to make amends for the pot roast she stole last week, with an offering of steaks. Throckmorton is willing to forgive, and is oblivious to her intentions, as she tries to get back together with him as a couple. As Gildy realizes what is going on, Leila is heartbroken as he flees.
Though he seeks refuge in diving into work at the office, Gildy’s woman trouble takes a different turn when he has to deal with his secretary. Later, LeRoy comes home with the message Gildersleeve hoped for, and another one that Marjorie didn’t want to hear. First Gildersleeve needs to endure a tedious school board meeting.
Gildy’s anticipation is dashed when Eve puts the damper on things, and jus wants to take things more slowly. Maybe Peavey will be able to lift Gildy from his dumps, and offer some advice, but I wouldn’t say that. It seems the unflappable Peavey may be having some woman trouble of his own.
Trivia Alert: Gildersleeve’s secretary, and never a real love interest in the show, is his real life wife.
