Fractions pose a problem for Cathy, and for dad as he tries to explain the tricky math concept. Meanwhile, drama queen, Betty enters to show off her skill at speaking Frrench.
Amazingly, Cathy gets the right answer. Hmm… maybe she can only do math in French. Bud storms in with his idea on a ground breaking invention, but he gets brushed aside. When Betty’s boy friend, Billy Smith arrives, the secret is out about her mooning over someone in her French class.
The rest of the secret is that the target of Betty’s affections is her teacher. Imagine mom and dad’s surprise at her crush being old enough to be her father. Not only that, when he arrives, he and Jim discover they have some common ground from serving in the war.
What the tensions between Cathy, and bossy, big brother Bud?
Friendships get turned upside down when Betty is embarrassed over the friendship lost, and won between her, dad, and the teacher. The teen age angst is over Cathy’s head as well. Before its all done, father may prove he might not always know best, but somehow, he does have a knack for being resilient and thinking he does.
