A married friend of Gracie’s, Blanche, enters, bursting with news that Walter Pigeon has just moved in next door. Gracie gives lip service to having eyes only for George, but can’t help being nosy as the movers bring the furniture up the walk. Bill Goodwin enters, but is only interested in pitching the sponsor.
Jimmy Cash sings, When They Ask About You. Could this be Tootsie Sagwell’s chance to get married to a big star? Gracie visits Walter to do some matchmaking. Does he need to borrow something… Lend anything? Maybe some role playing… like a native girl… speaking pidgin English? Maybe pretending to be Mrs Miniver? Maybe acting like Madam Currie? How about the direct approach?
Felix Mills plays, Canadian Caper. George is aggravated at Gracie’s meddling, but the date is on for Walter and Tootsie to meet. George is in a musical mood at his encounter with Walter. Bill Goodwin is back to butt in with the sponsor message, and rescue Walter from Sugarthroat Burns.
Walter reveals the reason he’s really interested in Tootsi, but will she want to join the Navy? Mix ups have been the rule of the day, and they aren’t quite over yet. The big conclusion pitches support of the war effort.
