First, some administrative chores need tending. Lum wants to elect officers for the newly forming rubber company. That means Lum wants an excuse to be voted in as president. Grandpap gives Lum a run for the money, claiming to be good with figures. He can do arithmetic in his head, with one hand tied behind his back.
The election gets complicated, with the gents all wanting to be president. Will a phone call to Cedric be the tie breaking vote? Maybe, it could be, but Cedric is inclined to cast his vote for Grover Cleveland. Abner gets confused over who that Grover character is. Is he someone who Ulysses hired to paint his barn? Can Lum explain that he is a former president of America? Will he be able to twist the rules of the voting to stack the ballots in his favor?
