Jet Morgan talks about the strange character, Whittaker. There’s wierd data in his personell file. Namely he was born after a significant time after his parents died. Either that or had been born 50 years before he said he was. How can that be? Just a glitch? A typo?
Other pressing matters draw the attentions of the crew away from him though. The wierd swarm of meteors that has blocked their path keeps drifting in front of them. Is there more than one swarm? They are drawing close, and fast. It looks like they may have to go through it. Wow. I wish I were on that rocketship. All those hours I spent playing Asteroids back in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s would really pay off about now for good old Jet Morgan.
Meanwhile, as is par for the course, the fleet of spaceships has lost radar and radio contact. The crew mans battlestations in full space suits as drift through the danger. Will they make it through safely? How about the rest of the fleet? Will there be any ill affects, or other dangers awaiting them? Has the business about Whittaker been resolved?
With the meteor swarm, or whatever it was, behind them it effectively cuts off all communication with Earth. The crew is on their own. Weeks pass, and life returns to routine. Suddenly a radio message comes through from Earth. But there’s something wrong. They recieve a message to turn back and return to the moon station.
