With the new baby in the house, Gildersleeve finds himself up at early hours. This morning he has some fun trying to give baby a bath. A special delivery letter comes from the Department of Welfare. It’s time to discuss future plans for the baby. The baby that was left in Gildy’s car several weeks ago.
Gildy gets defensive, and jumps to conclusions. Is there really anything to be concerned about? In trying to schmooze, and do some buttering up, Gildersleeve tries to ensure he has some good references under his belt.
At home, his pretense at being respectable puts a cramp in his lifestyle. Will his efforts be worth it? After a mid show reminder from the announcer about the Name the Baby Contest, Gildy runs into snags with some of the friends he has neglected. Hey, maybe if he butters up Peavey, he’ll put in a few good words on Gildy’s behalf. Well now, I wouldn’t say that.
The moment comes to face up to the caseworker. Will this be a sorrowful ending? Or is there other news awaiting? I think Gildersleeve will find the caseworker a little more sensible than he expected.
