In the Jot Em Down store, Lum takes grocery orders, and has to clarify how the ration stamps work. As if her woman’s work wasn’t enough, Abner figures that little Pearl needs more to do to keep her busy, rather than helping Lizabeth. Maybe a job at the defense plant? The classified ads in the newspaper might be helpful.
Abner might invest in another cow, and have little Pearl take care of it. How will he get the cow home, if he gets it? Abner burns up the party line in search of a trailer. He could use a new well on the farm, maybe that’ll keep his woman folk busy enough.
Lum keeps looking through the want ads, while Abner hunts down that trailer. The swapping comes fast and furious, swapping favors, while the jobs for little Pearl grow. The poor little thing is going to be wore to a frazzle!
How old is Pearl supposed to be? Do she or Lizabeth ever speak on the show? Thanks…i enjoy these, especially Lum and Abner. Wonderful world.
They never really say how old she is, but Abner always refers to her as though she is in school years. From the instance and this show, she’s clearly old enough to go off to be a nurse. In the 1946 season, she comes home and gets married. For the most part, Elizabeth and pearl or never heard on the show. Although, I think pearl may have been voiced in the episode where she gets married.
