Things look as bad as they can for Cedric in his breech of promise suit to Winifred Redfield. A collapse on the stand, and a witness being drafted before they could testify, forces Lum to rethink how to approach the case. In the courtroom, Lum admonishes the participants to keep quiet, and keep the distractions down. Then he sets out to interrupt and distract all by himself.
Squire begins his closing speech, and sums up the evidence, amid as much distractions as grandpap, Lum, and Abner can get by with. It’s looking as airtight as possible against poor ol’ Cedric. Even with the kidnapping prank by Cedric’s friends.
The barn animals return to interrupt as the speech rambles on about the withered flower of Winifred, and the injustice done her. Will Abner wax as eloquent? The speech has affected him as well, and he can hardly speak. A phone call reports that the withered flower has managed to find love elsewhere, and has bloomed again, saving the day for Cedric.
