The deal to write a magazine article is too sweet to pass up. Even if it means being embarrassed as a chump, it pays well. Can Lum turn the silly, no good, idea of building a rocket to Mars around, and place him in a good light? When Lum puts his best speech writing skill to work, Abner is less than impressed and refuses to dictate Lum’s boyhood exploits about walking to school in the snow.
As corny, and well worn as Lum’s speech is, Abner doesn’t do any better when he gives it a try. Taking a new, scientific slant, Lum rewrites his article to include professor Sloane as well. Abner soaks it all in, right up until Lum slips in the bit about walking in the snow.
After a rousing session of article writing for the magazine, it’s time to go home. There’s just one problem for Lum.
The weather has changed, and let’s just say that he isn’t a bare foot boy any more, and home isn’t school.
