Everybody in Pine Ridge has turned out for the monumental day. Speeches are shared in honor of the rocket, and the expected expedition. Abner calls Lum over to let him know that Squire has flown the coop. Grandpap helps Abner sell Mars stock to the crowd as Mousey Gray recites his latest poem about the hoot owl. Llewellyn Snavely Gray has another poem just for the occasion of unveiling the rocket… sort of.
The big moment comes and Cedric harmonizes with Abner… er… no, the other big moment. Lum strikes that tender chord in the harpstrings of his memory. Will honest Lum ever get past his old school days, and earning crusts of bread long enough to get to the rocket?
The crowd grows restless, and moves the ceremony along a little quicker. While Lum investigates a snag in the unveiling, Abner and Cedric get their chance to sing. What’s the big hold up? Mousey races over to report on the really big rocket, inside the really small observatory.
