The unveiling ceremony came to a dismal ending when the rocket was so big, it couldn’t be taken out of the observatory.
With a day left before the launch, Lum tells how he had the whole wall of the observatory torn down. He also talks to Abner about some of the scientific reports and test they’ll need to do while they’re up there on Mars.
Where will they stay, in a hotel? maybe those Mars people live in caves. Professor Sloane is beginning to have doubts that the rocket will make it past Cherry Hill. Will it move fast enough to get them to the Red Planet?
Determined not to be laughingstocks, Lum mentions a few figures of speech. Abner gets distracted and confused while Lum goes on to plan for the trip, and figure out their woes over the stock sales. What color is that horse of a different color the gents will ride back to earth on? That’s going to be a flying horse right? An invisible one?
Regardless of stock sales, Squire skipping town, and Abner’s confusion, Lum gets good news from professor Sloane.
